Ali Eisner | Stingray Rising Stars Winner | 2019 JUNOS

On Saturday March 16, 2019, Stingray presented the Video of The Year award accompanied by a $3,000 bursary. This year’s Stingray Rising Stars nominees were Peter Huang, Ben Knechtel, Andrew Hines, Ali Eisner, and Andrew de Zen. The bar was set high as last year’s winner was innovative artist Claire Boucher aka Grimes. This year, 2007 Stingray Rising Stars winners Tokyo Police Club introduced the award mentioning how invaluable the support from Stingray was for their career.

JUNOS 2019 | Stingray on the JUNO Express!

On Friday, March 15, the Stingray team arrived at Toronto’s Union Central Station excited to be part of the JUNO Express, in collaboration with the JUNOS and Via Rail. As we headed to the JUNO Awards in London, Ontario, we hosted artists and fans for a private show in the Stingray Car!

Power Women: The Rise of Female Rappers

With her painfully public feuds, love for explicit language, and controversial past, Afro-Latina rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, better known as Cardi B, may not be considered as an ideal role model for young women by the general public. Nevertheless, the 26-year old New Yorker just made history; at the 61st annual Grammy Awards earlier this year, Cardi B won the category “Best Rap Album” for her 2018 release “Invasion of Privacy,” making her the first female solo artist to ever achieve this. Role model or not, Cardi B’s win marks an important milestone in the history and continuous rise of female rap.
