Once again on a scorching Canada Day, Stingray Music visited the nation’s capital for the fourth year in a row to attend the 2019 TD Ottawa Jazz Festival. We were welcomed with incredible music and had the chance to provide four bursaries to deserving new talent.

C’est dans la salle feutrée et chaleureuse de l’Astral qu’avait lieu le concours pour remettre le premier Prix Oliver-Jones de l’histoire du festival, auquel Stingray associait fièrement son programme Prix Étoiles Stingray.

Fier partenaire de la 40e édition du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Stingray remettra un Prix Étoiles Stingray de 5000 $ à un jeune musicien de niveau universitaire se considérant issu des minorités visibles, le 26 juin 2019. Le lauréat ou la lauréate se sera démarqué-e par son talent de compositeur, de musicien et d’arrangeur. Stingray associe son programme Prix Étoiles au Prix Oliver Jones, présenté pour la première fois au Festival international de jazz de Montréal.

Blick Bassy, the Paris-based, Cameroonian singer-songwriter is in town for this year’s Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. In anticipation of his upcoming performance, I spoke with him about his new album 1958, due out on June 21.

After the 2018 release of their debut album Icaros, the British electronic-soul quartet Noya Rao returns with new music on the 26th of April. The band’s new record, an EP named Owls, effortlessly blends a multitude of genres, similar to its predecessor. Comparable to acts like Little Dragon, James Blake, and Polica, the Leeds-based quartet plays with lo-fi hip-hop and soulful electronica. One of Noya Rao’s unique attributes is the band’s way of allowing each sound and instrument to be distinct enough to display its unique richness and still blend into a harmonic arrangement.

An international trade fair, exhibition, and renowned festival, ! is one of the jazz community's most important annual events. Hosted in Bremen, Germany, it brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts. Jazzahead! 2019 pays special attention to Norwegian jazz and this year’s edition selected 40 different jazz acts from all over the world inviting them to perform over the course of three days.
