Americana is one of the fastest growing current music genres.
The name “Americana” is a relatively new one. The Americana Music Association describes it this way: “Americana is contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. While acoustic instruments are often present and vital, Americana also often uses a full electric band.”
Stingray celebrates the sound on the “Down in Alt-Country”, and “Sweet Home Americana” channels, and several other related to sub-genres.
The rising relevance of Americana’s success has given rise to AmericanaFest 2018, an annual conference in Nashville featuring live performance showcases all over town and an accompanying awards show at the legendary Ryman Auditorium. The event will be held September 11-16 and you can get details about it here.
And in case you think Americana is a US-only phenomenon, there are many international artists who fall under the sound, including many Canadian ones. Showcased this year will be the likes of Whitehorse; Stingray Rising Stars recipient AHI; The Small Glories and more.
We have created a special channel in celebration of the many artists showcased at AmericanaFest 2018. Check it out!
