Calling all Instagram addicts! We’ve got a fresh selection of artists for this month’s #SocialStatus roundup! If you’re the kind of IG scroller looking for new musical content in your feed or simply want to discover fire new tracks, keep on reading!

1. PARTY PUPILS

Name: Party Pupils

Hometown: Los Angeles / NYC

In 3 words: Modern twist. Funky. On trend.

Genre: Dance/Electronic

Fun Fact: Fairly new on the scene, this groovy duo is made up of vocalist Max Schneider (aka MAX) and music producer RyanEXOE. Here’s a fun fact! I couldn’t find any. I did a deep dive so far into the interwebs and could barely find any information on these mystery men. I mean, I found their names, does that count? The lack of information didn’t deter me though, because it’s all about the music at the end of the day and their music is magical. On the bright side, their Instagram feed gives you a better glimpse into their lives as musicians than a Wikipedia page ever could.

Standout Lyric: Considering the bulk of their tracks are remixes/covers, I can’t deliver a standout lyric. However, in place of a lyric, I’ll select a standout song: MS. JACKSON

Why They Made The Cut: Okay, yes, they are, generally speaking, a ‘cover band’ – however everything they remake is gold. ABSOLUTE DANCE GOLD I TELL YOU. I won’t lie, I knew about Party Pupils way before I started writing this blog, their modern take on Ginuwine’s ‘Pony’ is one of the best I’ve ever heard.

2. KAYLA DIAMOND

Name: Kayla Diamond

In 3 Words: Balanced. Quirky. Independent.

Hometown: Toronto, Ontario.

Genre: Pop

Fun Fact: Kayla was on a path to becoming a badass lawyer, but fate has a funny way of turning things upside down. The summer before she was to start law school, she wrote a song called ‘Crazy’ – this song went on to win her the 2015 Slaight Music competition and landed her a recording contract with Cadence Music. She also looks like the actress, Alison Brie and I thought that was pretty cool.

Standout Lyric:And baby you're the boss of my, Psychedelic funhouse soul, You're the only one I need to know, No one else but us around, Welcome to our stomping grounds, Lets make some noise” – Carnival Hearts

Why They Made The Cut: Here’s the tea: Kayla had come in for an artist showcase at our lovely Stingray Headquarters a few months ago and I immediately wanted to be her BFF. All jokes aside, in addition to her obvious musical talents, having a super dope, down to earth personality is what made me include her in this list. Her Instagram stories are always on point and entertaining – go follow her, you won’t regret it!

3. JAY PRINCE

© 2018 Jay Prince's Facebook. All rights reserved.

Name: Jay Prince

Hometown: London, UK

In 3 Words:  Lyrical poetry. Mellow. Inspiring.

Genre: Hip Hop

Fun Fact: Before Jay turned to the hip hop & rap genres, he was experimenting with ‘grime music’ as early as age 14. And more recently in 2016, he supported Chance The Rapper on the European leg of his tour!

Standout Lyric: “Choose the bed you make, prepare to lay, I'm still the guy that's tryna pave a way, Still divided by the love and hate, Cruise through the city just to think about life, Yeah it's been a minute had to really think deep, Little self doubt, can make you think twice, Giving my all so there's some kind of light” – Father Father

Why They Made The Cut:  Jay was actually recommended to me by a friend and being the lover of hip-hop that I am, how could I not fall in love with his music? After taking a gander at his Instagram I concluded this dude has got serious style and seemingly some sort of attachment to an organe beenie, that he no doubt rocks, nonetheless. His rhymes are fluidly poetic, focusing mostly on social and cultural subject matter; overall very easy to listen to.

4. MSTR ROGERS

© 2018 MSTR ROGERS' Facebook. All rights reserved.

Name: MSTR ROGERS

Hometown: Melbourne, Australia

In 3 words: Hard working. Accomplished. Brilliant.

Genre: Dance/electronic

Fun Fact: The man behind the music, Jarrad Rogers, co-wrote the song Live or Die with Lana Del Rey back in 2011. In addition to Lana Del Rey, he has written and produced music with/for some other big names in the industry such as Pixie Lott, Demi Lovato, 5 Seconds of Summer and the late Avicii.

Standout Lyric: “When you're rolling like a stone, When you're shaking in your bones, I'll be waiting here for you, When you're running from your ghost, And there's nowhere left to go, Don't you go oh oh, Don't you go go go” – I’ll Take You

Why They Made The Cut: His infectious single ‘I’ll Take You” had me hooked from the getgo. The 17-year-old club rat in me just couldn’t resist the delicious vibe of the whole song and I surrendered my body to the beat. You got me, MSTR ROGERS, my soul is yours. The cover art for his singles are also extremely appealing to the eye with their vibrant colors and dripping paint effects – almost translates to me as: My music is so amazing you’ll bleed rainbows through your eyes and ears. Too much? NAH.

5. WET

stingray-blog-wet.png

© 2018 Wet's Facebook. All rights reserved.

Name: Wet

Hometown: Brooklyn, New York

In 3 Words: Expressive. Relatable. Sentimental.

Genre: Indie/Pop

Fun Fact: The 3 members that make up the band first met through mutual friends while they were all attending University in New York City. Two out of the three members initially created a band made up of 7 members called ‘Beauty Feast’ but it eventually was called off.

Standout Lyric: “If my legs were longer, They might carry us further, But we waited too long, And so the task just gets harder, And the thoughts that come in, They come on strong and stronger, And it takes all of me, To just stay out of the water” - Deadwater

Why They Made The Cut: Back when Vine was a thing, someone used Wet’s song ‘Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl’ for 6 measly seconds and I just had to listen to it in its entirety. It quickly became one of my go-to “cry-your-eyes-out-my-heart-is-broken” songs; believe me, that’s not a bad thing by any means! It’s rare when you come across a song that completely resonates with you and moves you to tears because it evokes so much emotion out of you. I think that says it all.
