L'atmosphère était au rendez-vous la fin de semaine dernière au centre-ville de Sainte-Thérèse. La seconde édition du festival Santa Teresa a certainement sû rehausser le long weekend de plusieurs festivaliés. Situé à environ trois quart d'heure de Montréal, Santa Teresa est un jeune festival de musique dédié aux artistes francos-canadiens. Bien que ce soit seulement sa seconde année d'opération, le festival fût en quelque sorte victime de son propre succès. Malgré quelques problèmes de logistiques, les organisateurs ont sû offrir une programmation incroyablement variée aux amateurs de musique. De Dead Obies et Loud à Hubert Lenoir et Feist, le festival avait définitivement la capacité de combler l'arc-en-ciel de goûts musicaux.

De mon côté, j'ai eu la chance d'assister en premier temps à la magie du Cha Char Bar. Dans un décor intime et rempli d'énergie, j'ai découvert Langston Francis, un jeune talent que je ne connaissais pas et qui me rappellait de Zayn. S'en est suivi Sophia Bel et sa voix envoûtante et le meilleur pour la fin évidemment; Milk & Bone. C'était la première fois que j'avais la chance d'assister à une de leur performance, bien que je suis très familière avec leur chansons et c'était simplement incroyable.

Pour la dernière journée du festival, c'était un soleil splendide et très chaud qui était au rendez-vous. L'énergie était palpable chez les fans de Dead Obies et Loud. L'ambiance était certainement moins intime, mais tout aussi vibrante.

Je pourrais probablement m'éterniser sur le sujet alors voici quelques moments préférés de ma fin de semaine:

PUNK ROCKERS UNITED AT POUZZA FEST 8 IN MONTREAL, QUEBEC!

Montreal’s 8th annual city punk festival Pouzza Fest took place last weekend (May 18-20) in downtown Montreal including six indoor venues (Foufs 2.0, Foufounes Électriques, Midway Speakeasy, Katacombes, Club Soda, Théâtre Sainte-Catherine, Café Cléopâtre) and an outdoor stage at the Beer Garden. The festival attendees were spoiled with an amazing weather most of the weekend.

Some of the bands on the first and second day of the festival included Anti-Flag, The Beatdown, War on Women, Brutal Chérie, Reel Big Fish at Beer Garden, Talk Me Off, Complainers, Oh My Snare! at Foufs 2.0, Wilhem Scream, Brixton Robbers, Avenues, Hate It Too at Foufounes, Sister Munch and Potato Rocket at Théâtre Sainte -Catherine, and Bobby’s Oar (Acoustic), Mike Frazier (Acoustic), City Mouse, The Riptides at Katacombes, and many more amazing bands (SO MUCH MORE. YOU HAVE NO IDEA.)

Beers, sweat, happy yelling, and TONS OF PUNK LOVE

For a festival this size, 150 bands at multiple venues in the middle of the city, you might expect a slight chaos, but the whole festival was extremely well organized, all the bands were playing on time according to the schedule with minimal interruptions and the festival went on rather peacefully throughout the weekend.

Kudos to the festival organizers and the concert goers that return to Pouzza Fest year after year. Punk is here to stay.

Get ready (seriously ready) for some god-level shreds and squealing riffs

Hot damn, Converge. You’ve done it again. You’ve shaken me to my core and left me hungry for more. This band is, without a shadow of a doubt, metalcore’s true leader and has been adding their own inflection to the genre for the last 25+ years. Their ninth album is no exception.

Converge continues to grow and experiment their technically dizzying musicianship, while reinforcing their dominance in the genre. Through surprisingly pacific existential lyrics (“It’s the wars that we don’t fight that keep love alive”, “Don’t need a helmet if I have my heart”, “You have to bury the gun to finally make sense of it”) and thundering shrieking + bashing, Jacob Bannon shows once again his thirst for pushing boundaries and structural complexity.

Some of the best songs the band has ever written

The Dusk in Us is a huge achievement filled with fresh, sleek, and surprisingly succinct sounds. Put driving bass, ultra-tricky drumming patterns, and every one of Jacob's unpolished howls into a blender, and you have The Dusk in Us.

25+ years in, you can’t mistake Converge for anyone else

The Boston band convincingly interlocks explosive depths and implosive movements. For example, “Eye of the Quarrel” perfectly blends dark goth punk and old-school hardcore. “Arkiphov Calm” shuffles staccato screamo and churned rock power chords. “I Can Tell You About Pain”'s intro plunges us into its pounding extensions of sprawling psychedelic jams. It is impossible not to hit repeat.
