The Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) is considered one of the great cultural achievements in Canada. Stingray, as a passionate advocate for the arts and music, is delighted to have been awarded the 3rd prize at this last edition dedicated to the violin.

CMIM: a springboard for emerging talent

Created in 2001, CMIM is dedicated to discovering and promoting talented young musicians by providing them with an international opportunity to showcase their skills and gain recognition. The competition takes place annually and focuses on three disciplines in rotation: piano, violin and voice. Participants are evaluated by a reputable international jury, and winners receive scholarships and career opportunities.

Le Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) est considéré comme l’une des grandes réalisations culturelles au Canada. Stingray, en tant que défenseur passionné des arts et de la musique, est ravie d’avoir remis le 3e prix lors de cette dernière édition consacrée au violon.

CMIM : Un tremplin pour les talents émergents

Créé en 2001, le CMIM se consacre à la découverte et à la promotion de jeunes musiciens talentueux en leur offrant une vitrine internationale pour mettre en valeur leurs compétences et gagner en reconnaissance. Le concours a lieu chaque année et se concentre sur trois disciplines en alternance : piano, violon et chant. Les participants sont évalués par un jury international réputé, et les gagnants reçoivent des bourses et des opportunités de carrière.

Le 3e prix : Un engagement envers les jeunes talents

Stingray est honorée d’avoir offert le 3e prix à la violoniste prodige SooBeen Lee récompensée pour sa participation exemplaire aux épreuves du Concours dont son interprétation magistrale de PiOTR ILITCH TCHAÏKOVSKi Concerto pour violon en ré majeur, op. 35 L'émotion était palpable lorsque l’artiste est montée sur scène pour recevoir son prix des mains de Valérie Héroux, Vice-présidente, acquisition contenu et programmation chez Stingray.

C’est dans le cadre du 16e Gala de la SPACQ (Société professionnelle des auteurs et des compositeurs du Québec), qui s’est tenu le lundi 27 septembre au Théâtre Impérial, que Stingray Musique a remis le Prix André-Dédé-Fortin « Jeune Carrière » (d’une valeur de 10 000$) à Sarahmée. La bourse a été accordée dans le cadre du programme Prix Étoiles Stingray, qui existe depuis maintenant 20 ans.

Animée avec humour par Louise Forestier, ce sont seize artistes québécois qui ont vu leur talent être reconnu au courant de la soirée. Créée en 2006, la Fondation SPACQ a pour objectif de soutenir, promouvoir, encourager et venir en aide aux auteurs, aux compositeurs et aux interprètes ayant marqué de leur plume ou de leur musique notre mémoire collective. L’événement est devenu au fil du temps un moment privilégié de rencontre entre le monde artistique et le milieu des affaires.

Désormais une incontournable dans le paysage rap québécois, l’auteure-compositrice-interprète Sarahmée a lancé son troisième album Poupée Russe au début du mois de septembre. L’album propose des rythmes afro, accompagnés d’un rap urbain sous des structures pop.

The 55th edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival ended this weekend with a grand final show presented by EDM French rising talent Kid Francescoli! Here’s our review of this exceptional edition, featuring an incredible livestream lineup of eclectic performers.

Montreux Jazz Festival Livestreams on Qello Concerts

For the first time, Qello Concerts by Stingray was the exclusive livestreaming partner of the Montreux Jazz Festival. Presented by UBS, the festival was available for free on the streaming platform. Thousands of viewers worldwide joined the crowd and enjoyed the shows from the heart of the Alps to the comfort of their homes.

Throwback to the Montreux Jazz Festival 2021

From July 2 to July 17, more than 20 performances were livestreamed from a stunning new stage built entirely on the lake, as well as from the Petit Théâtre venue. The livestream lineup featured up-and-coming talents, and major artists including Woodkid, Robben Ford and Bill Evans, Altin Gün, Delgrès, Hermanos Gutiérrez, Yseult, Kid Francescoli, Nathy Peluso, and many more. Seven years later, French multi-talented visionary, Woodkid, celebrated his big comeback to Montreux with three shows and his new album, S16.

Classical guitarist and flamenco virtuoso, Raul Midón, returns ten years later to open the shows at the Petit Théâtre during the second night of the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Techno pioneer Jeff Mills and keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary form this incredible duo. Their chemistry on stage was evident as their musical compositions came to life.

Ford and Evans have played with major artists, including Miles Davis and Bob Dylan, but their 2019 album The Sun Room and performance at the Petit Théâtre prove they can stand their own ground!

All About Eurovision Song Contest Charonne B. Mon, 05/17/2021

It’s hot and it’s happening: the Eurovision Song Contest 2021!

After a two-year-wait for last edition’s winner, The Netherlands, to finally host the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), the big event is now only days away. Eurovision is back and better than ever! We spoke to Walter Zwart about all the ins and outs. Walter’s music career began in the mid-80s aboard the Caroline, the famous offshore pirate radio on which the movie Pirate Radio is based. He went on to work at Sky Radio for ten years. In 2008, he joined 2connect Media as a music programmer (the company was acquired by Stingray in 2014). Walter is Stingray Holland's Song Festival expert – or indeed, knowledgeable about any other form of music – who generously agreed to let us pick his brain.

Since the festival's first edition in 1956, we have seen many memorable performances on that famous stage where artists must make their marks within an agonizingly short three-minute time span. Stories need to be told and audiences need to be mesmerized. Walter elaborated on his top five of the ESC history's most memorable acts and their songs!

5 - "Un banc, un arbre, une rue", Severine (France)

Fifth in Walter's top five is Séverine, the French singer who, back in 1971, appeared with a huge live orchestra to bring out every possible facet of the song "Un banc, un arbre, une rue". Walter feels this is what an ESC entry should consist of: sung in the singer's native language, aided by a big orchestra, all adding to a sense of bombast.

4 - "Ding-A-Dong", Teach-In (The Netherlands)

Fourth on Walter's list is The Netherlands's very own Teach-In with "Ding-A-Dong". This brilliant song from 1975 is as up-tempo as it is up-beat, sung in a universal language that everyone understands. Another textbook example of what a Eurovision Song Contest entry ought to be like!

3 - "What’s another year, Johnny Logan (Ireland)

mber three is Johnny Logan, whose "What’s another year" won the ESC in 1980. The Irish singer took part in the ESC thrice, won in 1980 and became an overnight sensation. Picking himself up after poor career planning, he won the ESC again with "Hold me now" in 1987. What's more, he wrote a winning song for a fellow Irish ESC contender. Logan has really earned his spot in Walter's top five as he really understood what the ESC is all about and what people like to hear.

2 - "Waterloo", ABBA (Sweden)

Walter's runner-up is undoubtedly ABBA with 1974's "Waterloo". Clocking in at under three minutes, this rock-solid song offers all the bombast and danceability any ESC entry would envy. ABBA won in 1974, but one year prior, in 1973, Sweden was not convinced that ABBA would make it to the ESC top. In retrospect, everyone knows that ABBA is perhaps the most successful Song Contest act ever to have participated, whose fame lasts to this day.

1 - "Amar pelos dois", Salvador Sobral (Portugal)

Occupying the top position on Walter's list is Portugal’s Salvador Sobral. Sobral participated with his winning song "Amar pelos dois" in 2017. ESC contenders perform in every genre imaginable, and Sobral surprised the world with a completely new, small song, the likes of which had not been heard before in the contest. A typical case of "love it or hate it", Sobral's song captivated the hearts of the world within three minutes, making him 2017's winner.

Un jury déterminera le ou la gagnant(e) lors de la conférence de presse de clôture qui aura lieu le 22 juin à la Maison du festival. Finalistes du Prix Étoiles Stingray

LA VITRINE STINGRAY : 17 JUIN

Stingray présentera le 17 juin entre 15h et 17h une vitrine dans le cadre des Rendez-vous Pros des Francos avec les artistes suivants : Fouki, Les Louanges et Laurence Nerbonne. Un showcase spécial jeunes talents du Québec avec ce trio de folie sera programmé à l’Astral, salle de concert située au rez-de-chaussée de la Maison des Festivals. Tout en intimité pour bien commencer cette 31ème édition des Francos! À ne pas manquer de 15h à 17h à l’Astral, ouvert à tous, et gratuit.

PANEL « LE NOUVEL ÂGE D’OR DU VIDÉOCLIP » : 18 JUIN

Patrick Binette, notre Directeur au contenu et à la programmation fera partie d’un panel offert dans le cadre des Rencontres de l’ADISQ à l’année.

Plusieurs fois condamné à mort, le vidéoclip vit une renaissance incontestable. Dans un vaste dossier publié cet été, le Billboard évoque « un nouvel âge d’or ». Aux États-Unis, mais aussi ici, des artistes se hissent au sommet des palmarès radio et streaming grâce à des clips devenus viraux – faisant de ces derniers un formidable outil de découvrabilité. Bien qu’il ait toujours sa place à la télévision, comme en font foi les chaînes offertes par Stingray, le vidéoclip est aujourd’hui multiplateforme, rayonnant avant tout sur YouTube, et tout particulièrement auprès de certains publics, notamment les amateurs de rap et de musique pop. Alors, à quoi ressemble le vidéoclip nouveau ? La renaissance a-t-elle laissé place à de nouvelles façons de mettre la musique en images et de l’acheminer aux fans ? Discussion autour des stratégies à adopter pour maximiser le rayonnement et la portée du vidéoclip.
